Philippine Independency: A Great History

It is undeniable how significant is freedom to Filipinos considering the history of the country. Started from June 12, 1898, the Philippines gained back independency. Which leads to this year’s 123rd commemoration. It has been an annual national holiday in the country. But how did this happen? What pushed Filipinos to fight for just? Who were the people behind it?

Going back from the past, the Philippines has been colonized by many countries which lasted for a period of time. By that means, the country and countrymen didn’t have freedom to rule its own. Spanish Colony, this lasted for over three hundred years. A lot of things happened, including Filipinos to submit and be dominated by the Spanish.

These are some of the people, the national heroes of the said country. Jose Rizal, Andres Bonifacio, Emilio Aguinaldo, Apolinario Mabini, Marcelo H. del Pilar, Sultan Dipatuan Kudarat, Juan Luna, Melchora Aquino, and Gabriela Silang. They have fought differently. In many ways, with immense knowledge and intelligence one used ink and paper. Several combatted with metal weapons. But above all the dissimilarity of manner, surely they sacrificed their life for the country.

Such a great history the country has. Being voiceless and powerless because of the colonization that lasted for years. Yet these amazing Filipinos fought to gain back independence. Surely, the national heroes will never be forgotten. The courage they’ve possessed was spectacular. That’s why every 12th day of June is very important to the Filipinos.

Heroes in All Aspect

“Motherhood is the biggest gamble in the world. It is the glorious life force. It’s huge and scary – it’s an act of infinite optimism.” —Gilda Radner

Known as a great responsibility, especially inside the family. Having to witness my mother as I grow up really amazes me every day. With all the circumstances, sacrifices, and many other deeds, one thing’s for sure, mothers have love and dedication. I always look up to them, considering that they make the world better, our life better. For me, being a mother is a choice, and choosing to be one is a lifetime commitment.

We only catch sight of their joyous smiles and laughter right? Because that’s what they want us to perceive them, gleeful. But behind those, surely are the thoughts and worries for the betterment of all. I believe that one of the most challenging part of motherhood is raising a child. It is like a body that you need to nourish, only with the essentials so that in the near future it will be healthy.

Considered as heroes, with the infinite sacrifices. Containing endless perseverance. With their unconditional love, we can face the world. By simply showing our love in our own different and unique ways, we can make them feel the best. Annually, we celebrate Mother’s Day on every second Sunday of the month May, may we cherish it and do not forget to give thanks and appreciate everything they’ve done for us.

“Binatbatan Festival traces its roots from the abel weaving industry of Vigan which has been in existence even before the Spaniards came to colonize the Philippines.”

The country is really full of cultures and traditions. And its citizens never fail to celebrate each and every one of it. Vigan, Ilocos Sur has many festivals, namely Binatbatan Festival of the Arts. Which happens on the last of April to the first week of May, this originally began on May 3, 1883.

CoVid-19 Vaccination: Encouraged to People

A disease that was previously referred to as ‘2019 novel coronavirus’ or ‘2019-nCoV’, now known as CoVid-19. New virus that is related to the same family of viruses as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). A person who carries this might have the symptoms including fever, dry cough, loss of taste and smell, tiredness, headache and sore throat. The initial outbreak was in Wuhan, China, wherein the virus originated. It has been widespread around the world, resulting it to be a pandemic.  The first suspected case in the Philippines was investigated on January 22, 2020.

Lockdown and quarantine were implemented to the different parts of the world, especially those countries that have high and increasing number of patients every day to flatten the curve. Everyone is also encouraged to always wear masks, face shields, keep social distancing, take supplements to strengthen the immune system as well as to at least be physically active even at home. With these, scientists around the world attempted to create vaccines. Due to the fact that there is still no underlying cure for the said disease caused by the virus.

There are successful vaccines made and evaluated, ready to be distributed in the different parts of the world. According to World Health Organization (WHO), more than 480,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines arrived in the Philippines from the COVAX Facility, the international partnership established to ensure equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines around the world. The Philippines is among the first countries in Southeast Asia to receive vaccines from the COVAX Facility. The priority of the vaccination are the front liners and health workers of the country. And it is not mandatory but each one is encouraged to have a vaccine to be protected against the preventable disease. I, if given the chance is willing to subject myself for the vaccination. As stated by the Department of Health, with the BIDA steps and observance of minimum public health standards, vaccination is an important way to protect yourself from getting severe COVID-19. Also one of my family members has had the vaccine, with few side effects felt mentioning, headache and body pain. While some people are afraid to be vaccinated. Considering of their beliefs and thoughts like, it is not yet tested enough and frightened of the side effects they may encounter. Which should not be because it needs the authorization of the FDA first.

Pandemic caused by CoVid-19 disease has been widespread even up to these days. From Wuhan, China until it reached the other parts of the world. Health protocols were established for people to follow in order to decrease and control the number of patients. Lockdown and quarantine have also helped. With the created vaccines by different scientists that were tested, are now distributed to different countries including the Philippines. In which is not mandatory but each one is encouraged to be vaccinated to cope with the avoidable disease.

The Day of Valor

Araw ng Kagitingan commemorates the heroism of Filipinos as well as American Soldiers way back when the Japanese occupied the Philippines during World War II. The said event is celebrated every April 9 annually. It is a non-working holiday. But how is it this year, especially the pandemic is still widespread?

Normally, roads are reserved for parades in the different localities in the country. This is to honor the Filipino war veterans who died and serve the Philippines also those who contributed military service to defend whether it be during at war or peace. In this manner, they are acknowledged to preserve our sovereignty as well as in defending citizens’ national security. Unfortunately, this is still prohibited like last year considering that the curve hasn’t flattened yet and insisting it would risk everyone’s life. Instead, people extended their gratitude to the soldiers’ deeds through online with the use of social media applications.

Filipinos are indeed patriotic. For the people who sacrificed and contributed for the country’s ascendancy are not forgotten but remembered and is celebrated each year. This is the reason why its history, culture, and tradition are preserved from generation to another generation. Even in the middle of pandemic, citizens made a way to show their unending gratitude.

Lenten Season 2021

From the old English, Lent means ‘lengthen’. It is the period of 40 days which comes before Easter in the Christian calendar. According to Father William Saunders of the Catholic Education Resource Center, "The number 40 has always had special spiritual significance regarding preparation most importantly, Jesus fasted and prayed for 40 days and 40 nights in the desert before He began His public ministry (Matthew 4:2)."

Lent is initially fasting, both from food and festivities. Fasting is believed to deepened your relationship with God, because with this, the body reconnects to the emotion, mind and soul. During this season, Christians mainly the Roman Catholics pray for God’s forgiveness. Repenting also, recognizing and expressing sincere regret about the sins made. This year 2021, it took place from February 17 until April 1. As health protocols should be followed in the middle of pandemic, the solemn religious observance was done at home. And some churches and parishes connected to people through online. A way to deliver God’s word to individuals.

Even in the middle of the pandemic, Filipinos are indeed religious people. It wasn’t a hindrance to connect and repent to God. The sacred season this year 2021 may not be done in the traditional way but each individual had unity by heart.

Two Out of Four Already!

Just how fast the time passes by. It feels like a while ago entering second quarter with anxiety that I will not make through the end. But a period out of four has finished already. With the topics presented, surely I gained a lot of knowledge. Also, my patience is getting better in dealing with things. Due in typing HTML files and creating blogs. As well as in learning further information and enlightenment about certain subjects I have existing understanding.

Apparently along the way, I came across with quite a few challenges. Merely because no one is faultless, and it requires enough attempts to succeed in your goal. First among the troubles is not typing the right tags in the HTML files, the output didn't turn out the way it is supposed to be. In writing blogs, I had difficulty in coming up with the titles. And I still procrastinate. Although we are already halfway through the school year. I still tend to not have time management. Dealing with my anxiety also made it inconvenient for me to cope up.

Addressing these challenges, I sought help with my classmates who have mastered our lessons and with the guidance of our teacher. I did a bunch of research to conquer these. As much as I want things to be swifted, they just don't. Change is a process as they say. And overcoming difficulties should always be partnered with self-confidence and patience. Just recently I started to practice a better routine than usual.

Moving on, I will take with me the knowledge from the learnings and leave the unnecessary matters and habits that hinder to be a better person. I will continue to work in improving myself to lessen the said difficulties. I will make sure to use my time efficiently too. And to do utmost in each of things that I will encounter.

Manifest Thy Love

"Nobody has ever measured, even poets, how much a heart can hold."

–Zelda Fitzgerald

As celebrated annually around the world, Valentine's Day on the 14th day of February. Valentine is a masculine name. He is a martyr Christian that was killed. He is also a saint in Rome on 3rd Century A.D. Yet the cause of his death is still mysterious. Why was he killed? Is Valentine's Day really about love or at least has a connection to it? I guess we will never know.

Rather I term it as Heart's Day.  Love unconsciously make us ecstatic. Each person has different ways to love as well as to feel appreciated. This is called love language and there are five of this. First is words of affirmation, where one is build up through compliments and positive sentiments. Acts of service, expresses by doing things, it requires thoughts, time, and effort. Receiving gifts, but it doesn't mean that someone is materialistic, it's just the feeling of happiness that one senses when be given so. Quality time, wherein someone wants nothing but your time, it makes them feel comforted. And physical touch, it includes holding hands, hugging, etc. they feel more connected and safe this way.

An important reminder for everyone to keep in mind is that God is Love. In John 3:16, it states that, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." Let's not forget the One who protects, sustain, and whom we will return our everlasting life.

Above all, keeping in touch with our loved ones makes us a better person overall. Having someone who inspires and motivates is important and key to a happier life. Learning the love language of people around helps in building a stronger relationship with them. Through this, we tend to have more quality connection with the society.

Cultural Kannawidan Ylocos Festival

In the northern part of Luzon, Kannawidan Ylocos Festival is being celebrated. For the anniversary of Ilocos Sur as an independent province since February 3, 1818. Leading to its 203rd jubilee this 2021. Kannawidan is a variant of the Ilocano word “tawid” that means heritage or inheritance. With this, Ilocano culture improves causing it to be an awaited annual celebration.

Ilocos Sur is one of the provinces that is rich when it comes to culture and tradition. Also the food and cuisine of Ilocanos are indeed delicious and unique which drives other Filipinos from different part of the Philippines as well as tourists to come and experience the said festival. For the native people are given the chance to showcase their own specialties from their own places. This is through the Food and Trade Fair. Equally with talents, performances showdown. With this, the music and dances are carried out. And usually takes place at the Tamag rounds in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur. Unfortunately, as we are still in the middle of pandemic, mass gatherings are prohibited. Giving rise to the different manner of celebration. Some activities had to discontinue, some were celebrated virtually. Yet the Food and Trade Fair was immediate. Standard protocols were certainly implemented and followed.

We are aware that as years and generations pass by, people are being entertained in the field of improved technology. For that reason, it is valuable to participate with our simple actions to take part. To show appreciation and respect to our bequest.

Unbeatable Culture; Viva Vigan!

Vigan is one of the oldest towns in the Philippines. And is known for its well-preserved Spanish Colonial dark-wood mansions, cobblestone street as well as clattering kalesa. The city also made it to the list of best preserved example of Spanish Colonial Towns in Asia by UNESCO. Bigueños celebrate Vigan City's Fiesta on the 25th day of January that lasts a weeklong, in commemoration to the conversion of St. Paul Apostle, the city's patron saint. Additionaly, some establishment were made dedicated to him, mentioning the Saint Paul Metropolitan Cathedral.

Usually the town fiesta is composed of arts and crafts exhibit, trade and food fair, street dancing performances as well as competition from different schools. Bigueños are truly talented and dedicated people, they allot plenty of their time to practice and prepare for the celebration. And that the competition is very stringent due to the great presentation of each groups.  Even tourists are attracted to celebrate.

It is a very much awaiting celebration to Bigueños annually. But Covid-19 started last year and is still widespread up to now resulting in different way to carry out the fiesta. The yearly activities are celebrated with precautions and limitation, it is important to follow the health protocols. Recently, Trade and Food Fair just opened as part of the Kannawidan Ylocos Festival. As well as the Saniata ti Ylocos Pageant, the whole event was recorded live.

Indeed, the pandemic didn’t stop Bigueños to celebrate the traditions and culture. Happiness still lies in every faces even at home. With the great deliverance of the contestants.

Aspirations to Carry Through

https://i.pinimg.com/564x/83/dc/f3/83dcf3ea140ab439e182d5d28ff1ec2f.jpg

We are here again, to enter a new chapter in our lives, another new year. 365 days, and inside this range of time, we could do a lot of things.

Reminiscing to my past self, as on how I wanted my 2020 to be, I could say that I have changed in all aspects. I thought that due to the pandemic, I will not be able to reach those goals of mine. But it's the other way around. Last year has been a roller coaster to us, undeniably. It may caused us a lot of damage especially in our health, yet, looking to the positive side, inside our homes greater family bond was formed.

With the situations and experiences last year, I've gone through character development. And it is something that I want to attain since when I started my teenage years.

https://earthsky.org/upl/2020/12/2020-2021-new-Year-e1609358544324.jpg

Welcoming 2021, there are things that I want to keep from last year and there are things that I want to change that hinders me to become a better person. Having new year's resolution for me, keeps people motivated and become better versions of themselves.

In view of my personality, to be assertive is what I am trying to practice. As being an introverted person, I have low self-esteem, yet, I am in the progress of building it. I got used to seeing the positive side in every situation and I want to keep it. Also, the patience I built up in every little thing. To the commitments I have since last year, I hope to carry onto them. Having peace, joy and love for me is enough.

I am just like any other teenage who likes to enjoy life. And being in this phase, I do not like to rush things but actually to slow down and enjoy every moment. To do my best as well as to learn. They say that anxiety is normal, but I think mine is dreadful. As I got to build it for years. But I am sanguine to overcome it and be patient with its steps on the way.

With my academic performance, I was too tight on myself to the point that I lost interest on everything considering of the mindset I had, believing the works I've done weren't enough even though I put all my best on it. But this time, I will not let it happen again. Only a few months left before entering the senior high school. And I still have some doubts on what path I'm going to take. Hopefully, I will be able to be precised and confident about it.

Summing it all up, I believe that everything takes time. And with those resolutions I have, I hope to be it. As well as to keep those in mind every day. To be patient with process, to understand that it will be all worth it at the end and to not be distracted nor dismayed by the circumstances along the way. By the end of the year, hopefully, I would be blissful that I attained those and became a better person generally.

Summing It All Up

From the beginning of the lesson, I gained knowledge with regard to the history of the internet as well as the people behind the development of internet. I am now also able to identify the different internet services and tools, web browsers and web servers. With this subject, I created an account where I post all my blog. I have an understanding on how the world wide web works too. I know how to use search terms and search engines effectively. To define internet access and to value its importance also the data rate units.

As of my experience this first quarter, undoubtedly I faced a lot of difficulties. Such as being familiarized with the names of people behind the history of internet and memorizing the timeline. Also in mastering of using the blog site considering that I am new to it especially in editing the layout and adding details to my account.

In overcoming those problems, I assessed myself on why I was having a hard time. I have realized that I need to devote more time studying as well familiarizing myself with the topics we had. As time passes by, I can say that I am improving due to the fact that I have identified my weaknesses and did something to it. And with this kind of learning, the other concerns were addressed by our teacher through online- google meet.

Time is slow when we wait yet is fast when we let it flow. As the first quarter is about to end, I will continue to assess myself. Considering that I might have attitude that I need to improve that hinders me in understanding and coping in the future lessons. And also, I will practice to have a positive mindset so that I can have it in the long run. Most importantly, I will manage my time and use it wisely.

Responsibilities To Be Fulfilled Regarding Climate Change

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5kgZy6JlF49n-EtGUHKpWLECfpAKDj1AZ0LcJVFFM9YYBDSbdSWczB2w6KqAq2wwwHIvnPUfhuQGO641HG4w2jSlbtfeCS5hcbdc6z8OOO7VxV2PAHs28D9aJCNfqcplMpvKdSyH8mKQ/s711/1320_effects-image.jpg
Just like our bodies, nature needs our care too. We people have the responsibility to protect it, as we are the stewards of God's creation. Awareness is very important especially in knowing our limitations. In nature, we are able to get our basic needs as well as our wants, they all exist around.

Aren't you astounded by the calming effect of the green forests? As we get to inhale its fresh air. Aren't you mesmerized by the blue seas and oceans. Where we mostly witnessed the sunset along with the sound of waves that is soothing.

We aim to have a pollution-free environment yet we do not our parts and we are not aware of our limitations. Almost all of the places here in our country is already industrialized. Due to the fact that as days are passing by, so are the innovation and invention of people that contribute to climate change. Such doings mentioning burning of fossil fuels, cutting down rain forests and farming livestock, these are caused by us, humans that influence the increase of earth's temperature.

Although climate change occurs naturally, studies have shown that we are one of its major factors. It is important for us to raise awareness to other people. This is a step in fulfilling our responsibilities. Also, to be a wise buyer when it comes to purchasing things and appliances. To invest in energy-efficient ones. To use LED lightbulbs, it uses less energy. By saving water, it reduces carbon pollution. Protect the forest, plant more trees. Be mindful in everyday life choices, to choose to walk or ride a bike than driving vehicles. Plastics can be found anywhere, make sure to avoid buying foods and things with those.

Earth is where we live in, where we get our needs and wants. What we do not realize is the beauty of it that we are destroying. It is not too late to do your part as steward of God's creation. Your contribution is a drop to a full bucket, that means each one's doings are significant and have value. To fulfill our responsibility of taking care of our environment is what we need to keep in mind all the time.

Raise Awareness To Address Vulnerability

"Remember; when a disaster strikes, the time to prepare has passed." - Steven Cyros

Undeniably, Philippines as one of the countries located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, numerous geologic events occur here in our country. Mentioning volcanic eruptions and earthquakes. That resulted major traumatic effects. With this, the government came up with the program, National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill.

Disasters, it is unpredictable that can happen anytime. May it be naturally or man-made ones. Now, the program aims to practice the precautionary measures for disasters. Bringing up the 'drop, cover and hold'. Preparedness in general. Also to help the students and other personnel on how to respond immediately and appropriately in these times. To be aware of the evacuation plan as well as on the possibilities that might occur.

With the power of knowledge, one can solve or can overcome problems. Having awareness and understanding about this matter is very significant. Of course, knowledge should always be partnered with application to make a holistic result.

Although natural disasters are unexpected to come. With this program of the government, surely we can secure the possible effects that can damage us. Or at least with the basic knowledge we have through in participating the said program, it can help us a lot. Knowing that it can happen anytime. Disasters, we cannot stop it but we can do something, to have knowledge and properly use it.

Learning Continues Amidst Covid-19 Pandemic

According to Department of Health, Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses causing a range of illnesses, from the common cold to more serious infections such as those caused by Middle East Respiratory Syndrome- related Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome- related Coronavirus (SARS-CoV). Coronavirus can also cause a variety of diseases in farm animals and domesticated pets. This virus has been existing and spreading for a while. It was first identified in Wuhan, China then it disseminated around the world, resulting it to be called pandemic. The mentioned virus caused a lot of damage in all aspects especially in our health, those business establishments that were froze, important mass gatherings prohibited and the standard education interruption.

Giving rise to Department of Education to plan an alternative way in order for pupils and students to still have form of education considering that face-to-face learning is unadvisable. Emerging the come up of modular and mixed learning. In modular learning, pupils and students are provided with printed self-learning materials. While in mixed learning, pupils and students are still provided with self-learning materials as well as having the opportunity to meet any of the subject teachers virtually through several mobile applications. The school year supposed to start last August 24, 2020 but due to the fact that teachers aren’t yet ready for the distribution of self-learning materials, DepEd Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones announced that it was moved last October 5,2020, giving more time for teachers as well as the pupils and students to be prepared.

In the two weeks of modular and mixed learning, surely pupils and students encountered difficulties. Considering that learning is done at home, teachers aren’t around to teach and discuss. It either be self-learning or have the assistance of parents and guardians. Also the internet and signal problems. Time management in addition, owing that we have responsibilities at home, including doing household chores. As one of the students experiencing difficulties, I am still adapting in the new normal and doing my best to cope up with the lessons and activities given. In order for these problems to lessen and be addressed, we pupils and students give feedback to our advisers and teacher.

Amidst in the middle of pandemic and the struggles we are facing, education is still given attention and solution. With the help of Department of Education and its officials. With the alternative mode of learning, pupils and students will be still productive and knowledgeable. Stated its problems, I completely think that everyone as time passes by will conquer it with the help of teacher, parents and guardians. For in every problem, there is a solution.

Dear President Rodrigo Roa Duterte,

Most of the registered voters in the Philippines dedicated you their trust in handling our country. For more than four years in your position, you have addressed a lot of issues such as reducing poverty, fighting graft and corruption and improving peace and security. Now, this inscription is made to talk about the few out of all the issues that the country is facing, your other contributions and achievements as well as on how grateful I am.

I truly believe that great power comes with great responsibility. You have initiated the Build! Build! Build! Infrastructure, reducing poverty, encouraging economic growth and reducing poverty and reducing congestion in Metro Manila. Which has been one of the biggest problem in our country.

As a generation Z student here in our country who is active in social medias, I see a lot of issues having less and no solution at all, especially regarding about the pandemic, Covid-19. Health workers and Front liners regarding about the shortage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Also, the issue about the contact tracing of the positive Covid-19 patients, I suppose that there is no concern given.

As regards to the other problems in our country, I hope that these will be addressed as soon as possible.

Lastly, Mr. President, I hope that you will not stop there, you have accomplished a lot but there is so much more to change and improve here in our country. I know that you have a huge responsibility in our country but do not forget your responsibility to yourself to take care always, mainly your health. I desire to God that He will sustain you including your family and the rest of government officials. You are in my prayers, God bless you.

                                      Yours truly,

                                     Arianne Alviar

Get To Know Me!

With the maiden name, Arianne Alviar. Existed since July 21,2005, that counts me for living for fifteen years and still counting. From Barangay VIII, Vigan City. I am in the last grade level of junior high school- grade ten. I study at Ilocos Sur National High School. I came from a small family and I truly believe that I am nothing without them, their presence and support. I live my everyday life with my parents along with my brother that is five years younger than me.

After the basics, now get to know me more personally. Inside our home, I eagerly help my parents in doing chores. As a daughter, I give my parents the respect they deserve. As a sister, I have a good communication with my sibling. At school, when I was in the elementary I was always that shy girl, I will not talk to you unless you do it first. In my high school years, I am not that shy anymore, but not that outgoing type, just in the middle. As a friend, I'm that type who will always listen. Who remembers all the birthdays.

When life is hitting me hard, I do such things to ease me off. I have practiced to regularly have a devotion, either with my family or alone. This helps me to grow in faith with God; to grow spiritually. I play my guitar then sing some songs with it. I play outdoors sometimes with my little cousins. Since quarantine, I can say that I've been really a kitchen person. I learned a lot of recipes to cook that's why sometimes, I'm the one to serve for my family. I am now also knowledgeable when it comes to baking, through the use of internet. I bake sweet desserts and even savory ones every other day, considering that my family and I love to have snacks. During my leisure times, I either walk around in the woods and farm or read on app named wattpad.

Some random facts about me are the following. My biggest pet peeve is being late, my mood will be messed up if so. I am the clumsiest person you will ever meet, I have a lot of random wounds and scars and I pretty much get myself in a bunch of accidents every day.  I could stay awake all day yet I could also sleep all day. Most of the times, I love to be alone. I just want somebody to be with or to talk to if I'm lonely enough.

Everyone has an ambition in life, so do I. And before achieving these aims, we have stepping stones to make as well as to pass. I've been sacrificing a lot of my time to do requirements for school. I have adapted this, due to the fact that in my three years of high school, I came across with competitive classmates and considering that I am pushing myself beyond my comfort zone. Towards in achieving my dreams, I give my all in it and soon become a successful Doctor.

Living in this world for a decade and 5 years, I can say that I am determined, passionate, patient, hardworking and a loving person. In view of the fact that I just don't eat, sleep nor wool-gather. But also I don't live seriously, I live life to the fullest, I know my limitations. With God and my support system - my family, I know and I am confident that I can achieve my dreams in life, soon.
